Heidi Ward’s work explores the idea of nature as home or a place of belonging.

By reflecting on her own and others’ feelings of homesickness, displacement or being ‘uprooted’, she considers our shared experiences of belonging in and being part of nature. Cultural and societal norms and expectations seem to float away when walking through dense woodlands and climbing up the rough terrain of a mountain slope.

Through the use of experimental processes and materials, she creates abstract and figurative forms, shapes and textures, often getting lost and then finding herself somewhere in-between chaos and control.

Ward graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2024 with an MA in Fine Art (Distinction) focusing on painting and printmaking.

She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including solo shows at the Collective Gallery (2024) and Trestle Arts Base (2023).

Her work is held in the University of Hertfordshire’s Permanent (Public) Collection, as well as in private collections.
